Theory 105… The Tourists Guide to Food in America Theory

If you’re hungry and looking for something to eat… you can put down your smart phone and turn off the navigation system in your automobile. You see… just as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west… there are some tried and true facts when it comes to finding a good meal in the USA. All you need to do is memorize this quick little info-graphic that I created a while back… which will enable you to find a good meal anywhere in the country.

Here’s how it works…. to find a good steak… head north. If you’re looking for Mexican food… head west. Sandwiches are better in the east…. and BBQ is better in the south. Also… there are various little pockets throughout the states that have their own culinary delights. If you’re ever in Chattanooga, Tennessee…. make sure to try the Chow-Chow at Bea’s restaurant. La Nova’s in Buffalo has the best BBQ Wings in the country. You can’t go wrong with a hot dog in Chicago… and there’s not a bad cup of clam chowder in all of San Francisco. Meanwhile… in my neck of the woods… Crown Burger has made the worlds best fry sauce ever since Hy & Mikes Diner on 3300 South in Millcreek closed in the mid-1990’s.

The wild card? ASIAN FOOD!. Whether you’re going out for Thai, Indian, Chinese, or just plain old Sushi… there is absolutely no correlation with geography whatsoever. It’s quite possible to have a vomit inducing, reprehensible plate of General Tao’s Chicken while dining in Soho…. whereas the best Beef & Broccoli on the continent could possibly be at a strip mall in Winnemucca, Nevada.
